MKV - Matroska Video
MKV (Matroska) is a container format for video and audio. File Juicer does not decode or convert the video and audio streams inside — for that you need a dedicated converter.
What File Juicer Can Extract from MKV
MKV files frequently carry embedded attachments alongside the video:
- Cover art Album or movie artwork stored as JPEG or PNG inside the file
- Subtitles Subtitle tracks stored as text files (SRT, ASS, SSA)
- Fonts TrueType or OpenType fonts embedded for subtitle rendering
File Juicer scans the file byte by byte and will extract any of these it recognises.
Converting MKV Video
To convert or remux MKV video on macOS:
- HandBrake, free, converts MKV to MP4/H.265 and other formats
- MKVToolNix, remuxes and edits MKV files without re-encoding
