HEIC - High Efficiency Image Format
HEIC is Apple's default photo format on iPhone and iPad since iOS 11 in 2017. It uses HEVC compression to store high-quality images at roughly half the file size of JPEG. It supports transparency, HDR, deep colour, and multiple images in a single file for Live Photos and burst shots.
HEIC is fully supported on macOS by Finder, Preview and Photos. Most modern apps and platforms handle it natively, though some older software may require conversion to JPEG for compatibility.
What File Juicer can do with HEIC
File Juicer can find and extract HEIC images embedded inside other files, such as ZIP archives, backups or any binary file that contains them.
HEIC and AVIF
AVIF is an open alternative to HEIC with similar compression efficiency. It is now widely supported across browsers and platforms and is commonly used for images on websites. HEIC remains Apple's preferred format for camera photos on iPhone and iPad.
