EMLX, EML - Email files
Email files store messages including all their attachments in a single file. File Juicer can extract those attachments directly without opening a mail client.
File formats
- EMLX -- Apple Mail's format. Each message is stored as a separate .emlx file in ~/Library/Mail/.
- EML -- The standard email format used by Outlook, Thunderbird, and most other mail clients. Widely used for archiving and exporting messages.
- MBOX -- A single file containing many messages concatenated together. File Juicer can extract attachments from MBOX archives too.
What File Juicer can extract
Email attachments are encoded in Base64 inside the message file. File Juicer decodes and extracts them. It is not limited to the formats listed in the preferences -- any attachment type embedded in the email can be extracted, including images, PDFs, Office documents and ZIP archives.
When to use File Juicer instead of your mail client
Mail clients can save attachments one at a time through their normal interface. File Juicer is useful when you need to extract attachments from many messages at once, or when you are working with archived email files that you cannot easily open in a mail client.
Note that file names of extracted attachments may differ from the original attachment names. Using your mail client's normal save procedure preserves the original file names where possible.
