TIFF - Tagged Image File Format
TIFF is a flexible lossless image format widely used in professional photography, scanning, printing and publishing. It supports multiple compression methods (including uncompressed, LZW and ZIP), colour profiles, multiple layers and multi-page documents.
What File Juicer can extract from TIFF
File Juicer can extract TIFF images embedded inside other files. TIFF files themselves can also contain embedded data:
- JPEG previews stored alongside the full-resolution image data
- EXIF metadata tags containing camera settings, date and location
Where TIFF files are found
TIFF is common in:
- Scanners -- flatbed and document scanners typically produce TIFF files for archiving
- Professional photography -- many cameras and editing applications export TIFF as a lossless working format
- Fax -- multi-page fax documents are often stored as multi-page TIFF files
- Publishing and print -- TIFF is a standard format for print-ready images with embedded ICC profiles
TIFF and RAW files
Several camera manufacturers base their RAW formats on TIFF, including Canon (CR2) and Nikon (NEF). These files use a different file extension and contain proprietary data alongside the TIFF structure. File Juicer can extract the embedded JPEG preview from these RAW files. See the RAW format page for details.
