Open Office Files
Open Office or Libre Office text documents are free alternatives to Microsoft Word.
You can of course open and edit the ODT files with Open Office but also in Apple's Text Edit app or in Apple Pages.
Extract the Images, Text and Video
File Juicer can extract the text, images and video from Open Office documents. Just drag the file onto File Juicer and you will get them out.
Open- or Libre-Office files are built on open standards and if you place images or video in your documents they are stored inside in their original formats (zip compressed in a way that usually end in a zip to cpgz loop), so when you get your images out they are exactly as stored inside, and not a screen dump.
Many Files in One Batch
File Juicer let you extract them easily, and it is a convenient way to extract your text and image assets from your collection of ODT files onto File Juicer.
